Adaptive bicycles make fun for all

On a day this fall, a group of students from BLaST Intermediate Unit 17 (IU) enjoyed playing with their bicycles, just like many children like to do. But this day was special because for many of these students, who have diverse abilities, it was the first they’d had a bike of their own to ride.

The My Bike Program provides custom adapted bikes to children with disabilities so they can enjoy the same pleasures many kids do. Through community sponsors, the IU was able to work with Variety the Children’s Charity and My Bike to secure the modified bicycles. As part of the presentation ceremony, the children rode their bikes through the Montoursville Area High School auditorium and to the sidewalk outside, to the cheers of parents and staff.
