Annual life skills dance brings students together from three school districts

When the music started cranking at 4 p.m. Oct. 25, about 50 students from the life skills programs at Bald Eagle, Bellefonte and Penns Valley area school districts hit the dance floor. Afterall, dancing was one of the many activities students could participate in during the annual life skills dance that brings the students together.

This year, the event was held in the gymnasium at Bellefonte Area Middle School, with help from the school’s Chain Reaction Club that organized the event and decorations created by students in the school’s Art Club.

And with a Halloween theme, students were encouraged to dress in costume.

The dance was created about five years ago when the special education directors from the nearby schools collaborated on an idea to bring students at the three schools together. Next year’s event will be hosted at Penns Valley and followed by BEA, according to BAMS life skills support teacher Jeff Rager.
