AP physics class works with third-graders to build, launch rockets

Max Besong’s Advanced Placement physics class at Bald Eagle Area High School regularly takes their work outside of the classroom. On May 31, they teamed up with third-grade students from Wingate Elementary School to make – and launch – rockets.

Besong said the students spent the past month building and launching rockets, along with creating a lesson plan for when they worked with the elementary school students. The physics students explained and demonstrated the basics of pressure, conservation of energy and Newton’s third law of motion, which states that for every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction.

Together, the students built rockets and went outside to launch them.
