BEA students celebrate 100th day of school

Students from across the Bald Eagle Area School District spent the week celebrating the 100th day of class that was officially on Feb. 1. It came with activities that revolved around the number 100, while being fun and educational. Second-grade students from Tina Bickel’s class at Wingate Elementary School even tested the theory that it takes about 100 licks to get to the Tootsie Roll center of a Tootsie Pop. Estimates varied from 60 licks to a million, but for Parker Bennett, it took about 180 licks and for classmate Carolyn Brooks, it took 160. In doing so, all students counted in increments of five until they met the chocolaty center of the sucker. That was just one of many activities Bickel organized with her class that also included making 100-day crowns; a 100 counting book activity; bringing in 100 items such as confetti pieces, stones and marshmallows; and put their faces through a mobile application that turn them into 100-year-old-looking people.
