BEA students win big in Centre County Library contest

Bald Eagle Area students proved their literary talents when eight students placed and were recognized in the 2018 Centre County Library Young Author and Illustrator Contest.

Winners
-Port Matilda Elementary School students Hayden Stimer and Justin Johnson placed second in the third-grade category for their book, “The Dare.”
-Wingate student Michaela Turner placed first in the fourth-grade category for her book, “From Unsinkable to Sinkable: Margaret’s Story.”
-Port Matilda student Jocelyn Holt was given an honorable mention in the fourth-grade category for her book, “Adventure.”
-Howard student Matthew English was given an honorable mention in the fifth-grade category for his book, “The Sushi Restaurant Predicament.”
-Daina Julian won first place in the sixth-grade category for the original book called, “The Mirror.”
-Dylan Gehringer placed third in the sixth-grade category for the book, “Alien Attack.”
-Alice Crane got a honorable mention in the sixth-grade category for the book, “Change.”

Children’s Librarian Laura Sarge said the contest, in its 33rd year, encourages students in first through sixth grade to enter an original story. Entries are then judged by a panel of community members.

The student with the first-place winning story gets a hardbound copy of his or her book with copies that can be found at the library.
