Two Bellefonte Area students among the top of congressional art contest

Of 39 entries, two Bellefonte Area High School students placed in the annual PA-05 Congressional Art Competition, and are now getting local and national recognition for their outstanding work. Senior Megan Smith placed first for her watercolor piece titled, “Spoons.” Freshman Isabella Corman placed second for her watercolor submission titled, “Silverware.” Smith’s piece will be showcased for one year in an art exhibit at the US Capitol Building. She’s also invited to the Capitol for a ceremony in June. Corman’s artwork will be displayed in Rep. Glenn Thompson’s office in Bellefonte. According to information from Thompson, the Congressional Art Competition started in 1982 to recognize the talents of youth constituents in various congressional districts across the country. Since then, more than 650,000 students have participated in the contest.
