vet-daySecond-grade students at Benner Elementary School spent the week of Nov. 5 learning about veterans and the importance of recognizing them more than on just Veterans Day. Teacher Nicole Harris said students made cards at school and had the opportunity after school to visit Centre Crest to thank veterans for their service, and deliver the cards. One World War II veteran even spoke to the group about memories he had while serving in the U.S. Navy, including the time his ship was shot down and he had to swim to safety. The week at Benner was also filled with other Veterans Day activities to honor those who served and currently serve in the military. Nolan Weaver, a fifth-grade student, got a surprise visit from his uncle, Grey Rockey, who serves in the U.S. Army. Rockey is also a former Benner Bear. view the video, here: https://www.facebook.com/552506274784512/posts/1923866080981851/
