College pennants in the cafeteria to get students thinking about higher education as an option

Students in Chestnut Ridge Middle School are already considering their future after graduation thanks to a project by teacher Janelle Lowe. According to an article on the WeAreCentralPA website, Lowe installed more than 130 college pennants in the cafeteria to get students thinking about higher education as an option and to realize all of the options available. She also added bulletin boards that display the colleges’ locations and handed out locker magnets that say “College Bound.” Lowe got the idea after watching a news program that highlighted Chicago Mayer Rahm Emanuel’s efforts to get students in the Chicago Public Schools to consider college. The Chestnut Ridge Education Foundation funded the pennant purchase with a $1,000 grant.
