Clarion County Career Center spotlights cancer research and awareness

Students in the Allied Health Science program at Clarion County Career Center honed their cancer awareness and research skills in a class project last fall. Instructor Traci Wildeson divided students into groups to research different types of cancer. The groups created and presented posters outlining facts and statistics they learned. The posters were hung in the center’s hallways during Cancer Awareness Month and a different type of cancer was highlighted each week. Each week, students and staff were asked to wear the color corresponding to the ribbon that represented the type of cancer in focus. In addition, students held fundraisers such as dress-down days, bake sales and prize baskets with proceeds going to the Clarion Hospital Cancer Center’s Clarion Sunshine Project, which benefits cancer patients. In the past five years, the Career Center has donated more than $13,000 to the Cancer Center.
