Steelton-Highspire School District is partnering with Harrisburg University to fill a workplace void and provide students with a promising career pathway. Professors are teaching coding skills to Steelton-Highspire students in middle and high school, giving the students an opportunity to earn college credit and get a hands-on look at careers in computer and data science. In a news story about the initiative on the ABC Channel 27 website, Harrisburg University professor Jonathan Korn said that there is a 1.8 million shortage in the data science field. The new program is designed to help pique students’ interest in this promising career field.
