The award recognizes those who have done outstanding work to make the community safer. The district partnered with the Conemaugh Health System to implement the Stop the Bleed program via school nurse Quenna Kist. After becoming a certified program instructor, Kist provided instruction for all district staff. Taking the initiative one step further, Kist also provided instruction and equipment to bus drivers of students during a special lunch-and-learn event. The Stop the Bleed program is designed to train people to provide life-saving first aid care to victims with bleeding wounds until first responders arrive. The award was presented at the Keystone Trauma and Emergency Management Summit in May.
