Conshohocken Elementary adopts constitution on Constitution Day

On September 17, 1787, Delegates to the Constitutional Convention in Philadelphia signed the Constitution of the United States, forming what would become the “supreme law of the land.” On September 17, 2019, students at Conshohocken Elementary School (CE) honored the day by signing the Constitution of CE.

“Many years ago, in America, they signed a constitution today. This one’s for our school,” said CE third grader Vincent Makoid. “It’s so people will be nice.”

In their Morning Meetings, the students watched a video, talked about the two constitutions and went over the CE Constitution. It reads, “We the People of CE promise to be Trustworthy, Respectful, Responsible, Fair, Caring and a Good Citizen.”

“They learn that our country has rules to follow to keep everyone safe and give everyone fair opportunities, and our school has rules to follow to keep all the kids safe and make sure they have a wonderful, positive learning environment,” explained CE Instructional Aide Lauren Petruschke who helped create the video and banner.

The students added their names to CE Constitution during recess.

“It means I’ll be a good citizen,” said Amiyah Alvarez, a CE second grader, after signing her name. “You help your community, and Conshohocken Elementary is our community.”

CE will display the CE Constitution in the school and continue to reinforce the six characteristics throughout the year.
