Crestwood secures FUSE grant for STEM learning

Crestwood School District has been awarded one of eight Siemens FUSE grants, valued at $26,000, to help support STEM learning in the areas of coding, design, 3D printing in addition to skills such as critical thinking, problem solving and collaboration.

“We are proud to be recognized among this year’s recipients of a FUSE grant provided by Siemens Smart Infrastructure USA. Crestwood is excited for the innovative STEM learning opportunities that FUSE ignites for our students. We are thankful to have a partner like Siemens that helps prepare our students for the jobs of the future,” said Superintendent Robert Mehalick in a district press release.

Developed by Northwestern University Learning Sciences in Evanston, IL, FUSE is based on research in alternatives to traditional classroom model and how to organize creative and compelling learning environments. Through robotics, 3D printing, electronics and app development, the FUSE program offers numerous challenges to engage students’ interest.

All students in grades 7 and 8 have a dedicated and scheduled period within their school day to explore and experiment within the Siemens Stem Center FUSE classroom.
