Students get an edible introduction to DNA

Elementary students in the Danville Area SD got an introduction to the science of DNA from two Bloomsburg University biology professors. According to an article in the Daily Item, Dr. Jennifer Venditti and Dr. Angela Hess visited several schools in the district to teach students about the concept and help them build a 3-D model of DNA out of toothpicks and edible materials such as licorice and marshmallows. First-graders made models of blood components using corn syrup, dried lentils and other materials. As part of the educational outreach project, students from the college also visited the school to help teach the science lesson.
