In or out of school, safety is always on the minds of those at Bellefonte Area School District. That’s why school nurse Val Fulton helped spearhead a driver safety event with the state Department of Transportation leading up to senior ball.

During what the district called “Drive Safe Week,” a variety of initiatives were held leading up to an event at Bellefonte Area High School that included a mock crash, hands-on safety activities, driving simulators, information booths and more.

Fulton said other efforts included “safety shout outs” on the daily announcements at the high school, and Fulton and fellow school nurse Rachel Griel were in the high school parking lot handing out information about driver safety.

“As we head towards the summer months, let’s not lose sight of safety measures, while we are driving,” Fulton said. “Texting, too many other passengers and driver inexperience lead to many crashes each year – sometimes resulting in death. Let’s keep this prom season and summer safe.”
