Bringing Game Day to ELA!

September 19th was one for the record books. More than 50,000 educators worldwide took part in Rock Your School Day.

This day was created by the “Get Your Teach On” team to bring outside the box teaching strategies to classrooms everywhere. This was a day to break out of the norm, and try something different in your classroom. It could have been as simple as taking your class outside for a lesson, or as big as transforming your entire school. The idea behind the day was to show students that learning is fun, and get them excited about coming to school.

Shannon West, instructor at Corry Area School District, chose to transform her classroom into a football field! Students played games, collaborated, and debated, all while practicing much needed skills, such as context clues, sequencing, and point of view. If you search #rockyourschool, you will find thousands of amazing ideas that can spark learning in your own classroom!

Next year’s Rock Your School Day has been set for September 24, 2020. What will you do to deliver your ordinary content in the most extraordinary way?
