Students in grades 6-12 from across Pennsylvania had a unique opportunity to speak to legislators about school safety through the “Talk to Your State Senator” statewide video contest. The contest, hosted by the PA Senate and sponsored exclusively by PSBA, invited students to submit original videos with the theme of “Speak out for Safe Schools.” The purpose of the annual competition is to foster communication between students and legislators on important topics impacting education.

The six winners were announced in May: three at the middle school level and at the high school level. Each received a monetary prize deposited into TAP 529 college and career savings accounts in the winners’ names. Winning submissions came from students of these districts:
Landisville Middle School (Hempfield SD, Lancaster Co.)
Lionville Middle School (Downingtown Area SD, Chester Co.)
West Forest Junior-Senior High School (Forest Area SD, Forest Co.)
Penns Valley Area High School (Penns Valley Area SD, Centre Co.)
Everett Area High School (Everett Area SD, Bedford Co.)
Connellsville Area Senior High School (Connellsville Area SD, Fayette Co.)
