Gill Hall second-graders create pumpkin volcanoes while learning about chemical reactions

Mrs. Gigliotti and her second-grade science classes at Gill Hall Elementary are having fun while learning about chemical reactions. The students conducted a special scientific experiment where they made predictions about what would happen when they combined baking soda, vinegar and food coloring inside a pumpkin. Students poured colored vinegar into the baking soda-filled pumpkins at the exact same time. Amid giggles and screams, the kids watched intently as frothy, bubbly mixtures poured out of the tops of their pumpkins. The students LOVED the experiment and cannot wait to try it at home with their own pumpkins.
