Designed to enhance students’ understanding of the career and daily expectations of a classroom teacher, Child Development III is a one-semester course which provides opportunities for our high school students to spend an hour a day at one of our elementary schools. These students are placed in a classroom where they observe and provide assistance as needed. The students maintain a daily log of their experience and their daily reactions to classroom procedures. They also prepare a written report at the end of their experience.

“I have really enjoyed what I have experienced in this class, it has proven me right about how sure I am that this is what I would like to pursue someday. Seeing Mrs. Pernaci (Chatham Park Elementary School) have such a special bond with the children motivates me to inspire young children and hopefully be an advocate for young children all around. I look forward to this opportunity given to me every day because I am surrounded by such amazing kids” said Julia Thornton, Class of 2019.

Child Development III is open to students who have successfully completed Child Development I and Child Development II at the High School. The Child Development I and Child Development II students work with the preschool children in our high school Child Development Lab.

Some of our current teachers in the district have taken these Child Development courses when they were students at Haverford High School.
