PAWS for Reading

A group of Lynnewood Elementary School students in the SD of Haverford Twp. will work with PAWS for Reading to build literacy skills. The nonprofit PAWS for Reading organization partners with teachers to provide individualized reading time with a highly trained team consisting of a volunteer and therapy dog. This partnership allows time for struggling and reluctant readers to read in a nonthreatening environment to practice fluent reading. The rapport built between therapy team and reader encourage a lifetime love of reading, positive communication experiences and increased self-confidence. The project goal is for 12 students to work with a therapy team each trimester, 36 students each school year, for two consecutive years.
