Four Hempfield High School communications technology students earned first place in the “45 Seconds to Russia” contest, presented by the US-Russia Social Expertise Exchange (SEE) and Student Television Network (STN). Students were required to produce a 45-second video explaining why they wanted to participate in the US-Russia anchor team to produce a season of web-based Disabilities Partnership TV (DP-TV). Hempfield students Bailey Titter, Kayleigh Gallagher, Joel Pletcher and Jack Harrison traveled to Moscow and Yekaterinburg, Russia, with teacher Mathew Binder in July. The students will serve as the first US anchors of the inaugural season of DP-TV, working to develop a broadcast news-style program about disabilities in their respective communities. While in Russia, the students shared a presentation on the Hempfield community, while their teacher collaborates with Russian teachers about best practices in teaching.
