Jefferson Elementary Kindergartners Hold “Warm our Hearts” Pajama Drive

Jefferson Elementary Kindergarten Classes kicked off their “Warm Our Hearts” Healthy Heart Awareness Campaign in honor of fellow kindergarten student Kiptyn Theiss with the entire school wearing red on Friday, February 2, 2018. Kiptyn was born with a congenital heart defect and to show support for him and other individuals suffering from heart conditions, Kindergarten teachers Lori Lawry, Nichole Matusz and student teacher Brooke Charlebois decided to organize a special service project to benefit the Heart Institute at Children’s Hospital. The kindergarten students held a school-wide Pajama Drive to provide new PJs to all kids having heart surgery at the Heart Institute. A letter was sent home with all students from the school encouraging each family to participate. Each grade level was suggested to bring in a different size of pajamas to fit a variety of ages. The response from all students was amazing and the total donations yielded 305 new pajamas! The kindergartners helped load the boxes for Mrs. Theiss (Kiptyn’s mother) to deliver to the Heart Institute on Wednesday, February 21, 2018. Kindergarten teacher Lori Lawry said she “loved seeing the excitement and smiles on the students’ faces as they entered the classroom eager to see how many more pajamas they collected. It was truly a heartwarming experience to share this with our students and the entire school.”
