Inventionland comes to Leechburg Area SD

Seventh- and eighth-grade students in Leechburg Area SD are learning what it takes to create and market new products. A collaboration between the district and Inventionland, a Pittsburgh-based invention marketing and development company, will provide a new elective for students in the coming academic year. According to an article in Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, the class will work in groups to think of an idea and sketch it out. They then will create a marketing plan, complete with graphics and packaging, and learn about patents before presenting their idea to a panel of judges at Inventionland. The experience mirrors what the company’s employees do every day. Although there is no guarantee that students’ products will be developed for sale, Inventionland Executive Director Nathan Fields says it’s a possibility. The course will be taught by four teachers from different areas – industrial arts, business and marketing, art and technology and media arts.
