Cutline – The second annual Meyersdale Area Educational Boosters Walk-A-Thon was a huge success. On October 16, Meyersdale Area Elementary students learned they earned more than $14,577 through pledges and donations. Top earners were recognized for their efforts and will enjoy a special lunch with MAES Principal Devin Pritts. These top earners include: (back row, from left) Makayla Hotchkiss Caleb Sines, Addison Booth, Megan Peters, and Baylee Korns; (middle row) Madalynn Romesberg, Adalynn Smith, Matthew Brooks, Gabriel Haer and Bo Smith; and (front row) Ella Ferris, Emily Quinn, Tucker McCoy and Carter Bennett. Taylor Sines was absent for the photo.

Students in kindergarten through fifth grade nearly doubled their fundraising goal for the 2019 MAES Educational Boosters Walk-A-Thon. On October 16, students learned they, with the help of their family, friends, faculty and staff, raised more than $14,577! The goal for this year’s walk was $8,000 and this year’s total beats the 2018 total by nearly $1,500!

According to Mr. Devin Pritts, MAES Principal, organizers had hoped to raise approximately $8,000 and were flabbergasted to learn that goal was not only met, but exceeded by nearly $7,000.

Pritts and organizers said the event exceeded all expectations and was a greater success than ever imagined.

The second annual Walk-a-Thon Fundraiser was held September 27 at the Meyersdale High School Track. Students in grades K through 5 sought pledges and accepted donations. Students in kindergarten and first grade had 30 minutes to walk as many half-laps as they could. Older students had one hour to complete as many full laps as they were capable. For example, the second grade class walked 522 laps, for a total of 130.5 miles!

A special reward has been planned for all students because they met and exceeded the fundraising goal for this year. The Educational Boosters will provide each child with an ice cream treat during lunch.

Money raised through sponsorship and/or donations will directly benefit students through the many programs and activities sponsored and supported by the Boosters. These activities and events include: field trips, assemblies, Santa’s Store, summer family activities, family movie night, classroom supplies and much more.
