McDowell and Fort LeBoeuf high schools team up with local businesses to support STEM education

The Millcreek Township School District proudly announced its latest academic program initiative, the McDowell High School Manufacturing Academy. A tour was provided showcasing some of the equipment being used for the program.

According to PHB Inc., McDowell and Fort LeBoeuf high schools are creating opportunities to expose their students to STEM–science, technology, engineering, and mathematics–education. The goal of the education program is to provide students with avenues to explore STEM-related concepts, develop a passion, and hopefully pursue a job in a STEM field. The schools are hoping to bridge the ethnic and gender gaps sometimes found in math and science fields.

Members of Bison Tech, Fort LeBoeuf’s robotics team, had the opportunity to tour two local manufacturing plants in Erie, PA. The experience was apart of the district’s push to further their students’ STEM-related education.

McDowell High School in Millcreek will be opening the “McDowell High School Manufacturing Academy” at the beginning of the next academic year. The academy will be equipped with the same machines found in local manufacturing companies across Erie, PA, and will be held to standard STEM curriculum, to assist with career readiness and internship experience.
