Students participate in community clean-up

Nearly 50 Meyersdale Area High School students, from Student Council, National Honor Society and Future Business Leaders of America, participated in the annual Fall Community Clean-up Day on October 18. Students completed a wide variety of tasks to demonstrate the pride they have in their community and the gratitude they have for the individuals, organizations and businesses who support the Red Raiders all year long.

The streets of the Maple City were taken over by teens on Friday, October 18 for the annual Fall Community Clean-Up. More than 40 FBLA (Future Business Leaders of America), National Honor Society and Student Council members spent the day cleaning, raking leaves and weeding and at businesses throughout the community, as well as the park and Borough building. These three groups join forces each Spring and Fall for this initiative.

“Our bi-annual community clean-up days are worthwhile for townspeople and for area businesses and organizations because we blitz Meyersdale to weed, rake, sweep, clean, paint, weatherize and otherwise improve our town in fall and in the spring. Even more vital is the tremendous lesson that clean-day instills in our students: roll up your sleeves and work hard to invest yourself in the prosperity of your community,” Jessica Deakins, NHS advisor explained. “Our town supports our school district so loyally and generously; our students need to learn their role in that partnership of giving to and in caring for Meyersdale.”
