Students in engineering workshop

The North Penn High School celebrated National Engineers Week by hosting a variety of workshops for students on March 3. The purpose of National Engineers Week is to call attention to the contributions to society that engineers make, and is a time to emphasize the importance of learning math, science and technical skills. The NPHS Technology Education and Engineering Department partnered with the American Society of Civil Engineers Younger Member Forum to bring educational opportunities to engineering students at North Penn. ASCE YMF volunteers gathered with more than 150 students, giving students the opportunity to engage with professional engineers and engineering college students, allowing them to ask questions about careers, projects, goals and what it’s like to be an engineering college student. In an ice cream workshops, chemical engineers showed students how to create ice cream. A civil/structural activity, civil engineers worked with students to understand forces, dynamics and environmental factors in a real-world, hands-on activity.
