Oley Valley displays its positive school culture

“You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view […] until you climb into his skin and walk around in it,” To Kill a Mockingbird. That quote inspired Oley Valley High School teacher Stephanie Kallis and her students to collaborate on a two-part film. The first part of the film focused on people behaving poorly in school and the second part focused on helping one another and attempting to climb into the skin of those around them. Throughout the video literary quotes from English curricula are incorporated. Unfortunately, the school year ended too quickly and the video remained incomplete.

As this new school year began, students added a third segment.  Staff and students were asked to dance, demonstrating the value of creating a school culture in which all people feel accepted and valued. The project involved as many people as possible from diverse backgrounds to emphasize the importance of inclusion.
