Oley Valley FFA students shine at the Pennsylvania Farm Show

Three senior members of the Oley Valley chapter of the Future Farmers of America received the PA FFA Keystone Degree in January while attending the Pennsylvania Farm Show, FFA Midwinter Convention. Students Jacob Guldin, Kelsey Schlegel and Sarah Tatham were awarded the Keystone Degree based on academic achievement, leadership, chapter involvement, community service and completion of a Supervised Agricultural Experience (SAE project) with a minimum of 300 hours or $1,000 earned or invested in the project. The degree is the highest FFA degree awarded from the Pennsylvania FFA Association. Also honored during the convention were ninth-graders Rebecca Kugler, Sydney Trimbur, Matthew Peirce, Landon Yorgey and Devin Wentzel, each of whom received a complimentary FFA jacket from the PA FFA Alumni Association. The FFA members competed in a contest where they had to write an essay on what the FFA jacket means to them. Another Oley Valley FFA entry at the Farm Show was a window display board, “The Bitter Taste of Food Waste,” that focused on the concern of food waste across the nation. Oley Valley’s entry placed first overall this year.
