PDE recognizes CVE as Title I Distinguished School
Connoquenessing Valley Elementary School was recently named a 2018-19 Distinguished School under the federal guidelines for Title I Schools. The school is among the 158 other schools from across the Commonwealth to receive the designation from the Pennsylvania Department of Education, and now joins the top 5% based on composite scores for math, English and language arts on state achievement exams.
“To be one of the few selected for this designation across the entire state is very impressive.” said Dr. Tracy Vitale, Seneca Valley Superintendent of Schools. “This prestigious designation certainly accentuates the best practices that the Principal DeeAnn Graham and her team utilize at CVE every day. They are to be commended for their hard work and passion for ensuring that every child is learning in the best possible environment every day. They truly understand what it means to teach our early learners in a warm and caring environment while putting early literacy as a top priority.” Mrs. Graham credits Kathy Novakovich and Donna Cavanaugh, CVE Reading Specialists, for putting young learners first, taking what can be a struggle for some and making it a successful journey. “We are fortunate to have such dedicated educators in our District,” said Mrs. Graham. “We have always known that our Title I Program is outstanding; now the rest of the state will know it as well.”
Title I is a federally funded program that supports schools with higher poverty levels who meet state performance standards. CVE qualifies for Title I targeted support, which allows specific children in grades kindergarten through third grade the opportunity to receive this intervention program. Title I instruction is delivered in a small group setting in addition to regular classroom instruction.
