Coffee shop helps students transition

Special education students at Penn-Trafford High School are getting a taste of life in the workforce through the Transitions program, highlighted in a recent Pittsburgh Tribune-Review article. Participating students visit a variety of local businesses and run Coffee for a Cause, a coffee shop in the high school, where students learn customer service and food handling skills. After working at the coffee shop, students move into jobs in the community. Several are working at a thrift shop while another student is a manufacturing technician at a local plant the students have toured. All proceeds from the coffee shop help to fund the construction of a greenhouse at the high school.
