Team “G Dogs” of Harrison Park Elementary School compete in the battle

The Penn-Trafford Community Education Foundation (PTCEF), which supports students in the Penn-Trafford School District with supplemental learning opportunities and classroom grants, hosted its 5th annual “Battle of the Books” on November 7, 2019.

A record-breaking 32 teams of 165 students in grades 3-5 attended the evening program. Participants have been reading and preparing since the summer. When the students returned for the 2019-2020 school year, they formed teams of 3-6 students and designated one parent volunteer to help guide the team in preparations for the November 7th competition.

This year’s theme was “Work Like a Dog”. Books were chosen accordingly, and include titles like It’s a Dog’s Life, Because of Winn-Dixie and Dog Diaries. To add to the fun, each team selected a name (some examples are “The Book Hounds”, “Dazzling Dalmations”, and “Barking Divas”), and they also coordinated costumes.
