Pequea Valley High School Twirler

Emilie Thibeault, a freshman at Pequea Valley High School, participated in Twirl Mania. It is an annual, international competition held in Orland, Florida at Disney’s ESPN building. Four countries participated this year from Canada, Nova Scotia, England, and the United States. There are many people that compete in this competition. Twirl Mania Started in the late 1980’s and grew to have as many as 5,000 twirlers compete. The competition has many different events. The twirlers are divided up by age and level. Emilie competed in the 14-15 intermediate division. She competed in the Twirl Maniac Challenge invitational which has multiple open events, and the High School Classic. To compete in the Twirl Maniac Challenge, you must qualify and must place in the top eight for either solo or two baton at Nationals. Emilie competed at TU Nationals in Cannon, Ohio over the summer and qualified by placing second in two baton for the Twirl Maniac Challenge. Emilie completed in many open events, as well including, modeling, basic strut, solo, X-strut, two baton, and three baton. Emilie placed in these events as well. Another large event was the High School Classic. This year Emilie’s coach credited a routine to music Mr. Jim Ackerman, Music Facilitator, created from marching band. As a freshman Emilie finished 3rd between twirlers ages 14-18. Emilie loves being able to represent her school not only on the football field, but in competitions as well.
