Pequea Valley goes hands-on for Manufacturing Day 2017

Through a week-long celebration, Pequea Valley students had the opportunity and access to experience the world of manufacturing in every aspect. The week is a worthy investment in the community and kids, and opens students’ eyes and minds to the incredible career opportunities in this industry all while having fun! Manufacturing Week is one of the first steps in accomplishing the important goal that every learner to be prepared to enter his or her first choice in employment.

Monday, 10/2 – Kickoff!
This day was all about hands-on manufacturing. Learners manufactured a toy that will be donated to Toys for Tots. Each class, or content area, focused on a different aspect of manufacturing. Some examples include producing the toy in STEM, testing production materials in science, designing packaging in art, writing directions in ELA, producing a commercial in humanities just to name a few. Industry specialists and leaders were invited into the classroom to speak to students, lend their expertise and join in the fun.

Tuesday, 10/3 – Cross Curricular Integration
Eighth graders visited various CTC and area college campuses, while seventh grade students experienced cross-curricular connections focused around manufacturing and toured the high school classes during the morning.

Wednesday, 10/4 and Thursday, 10/5 – Site Visits
Learners went onsite at various manufacturers and toured the facilities to see the industry in action!
They also participated in mock job interviews, experienced a STEM truck visit, built picnic tables for Braves Club, raced to frame a wall, and much more.
