September marked the official kickoff in Peters Twp. SD of Rachel’s Challenge, an organization that focuses on creating a culture of kindness to combat bullying, based on the writings of Rachel Scott, who died during the Columbine High School shooting in 1999. In a special event, Rachel’s father Darrell Scott, author and founder of Rachel’s Challenge, was guest speaker – with nearly 1,000 members of our community in attendance. “We were introduced to this program last spring and immediately knew this would be embraced by our community and could have a huge impact on our families,” said Dr. Jennifer Murphy, assistant superintendent who attended a Rachel’s Challenge event along with other district administrators. The goal of the program is to positively impact the lives of students both inside the classroom and throughout the community. The chain reaction of kindness has begun in Peters Township. Community members have been invited to share their stories of kindness and inspire others via a new facebook page @PTChainReaction.
