‘Aevidum’ group promotes a positive school culture

Pocono Mountain East High School is being proactive about maintaining a healthy school environment where students feel safe reaching out for help and feel appreciated. The school recently launched a new program called Aevidum, designed to support students who may be depressed, have suicidal thoughts and/or are being bullied. According to an article in the Pocono Record, the student-run program’s name means “I’ve got your back,” and it operates on the premise that students are more willing to talk about struggles with a peer than an adult. Peer listeners are available to talk with students who need help and can then refer those students to one or more trusted adults for assistance. The group also promotes anti-bullying activities/messaging in school and keeps an eye out for students who may seem troubled and need help.
