While police officers and soldiers are still popular career options, many students selected “YouTube Sensation” when asked about their career aspirations this school year.

College and career readiness is a priority in Reading School District. The district developed their Act 339 Plan and integrated Naviance, college visits, Reading-Muhlenberg Career and Technology Center tours, as well as in-depth career exploration into the curriculum for younger students. The high school now offers more than a dozen Advanced Placement classes, an SAT Boot Camp and intensive writing courses. The school has also developed a career program with Gage Personnel, as well as four student internship programs at Kautter & Kelley Architects, Tower Health, Penn State Health-St. Joseph and Visions Federal Credit Union. In addition, the Greater Reading Chamber Alliance hosts annual career prep and workforce development programs, including a career fair at Reading High. “Local businesses have been making the commitment to recruit, hire and retain RHS graduates as employees in the local workforce,” says Superintendent Khalid Mumin, Ed.D. “That level of support and engagement is important because it benefits the district, our students, businesses and the entire community. It’s vital, and it directly impacts the local economy.”
