Three of the DIY air-conditioning units created by students

Students in Physics I and Applied Physics are starting the year off with a quick unit in Thermodynamics. With the hot temperatures and high humidity levels, students are trying to keep cool. The physics students were assigned a project to design, fabricate, and market a do-it-yourself (DIY) air-conditioning unit. Students are looking at efficiency and cost as the two major components of this project. To be efficient, they have been research and trying to fabricate a unit that will hold ice for extended periods of time all the while, keeping the cost low. Though these DIY a/c units aren’t true air conditioners, they do provide enough cool air to take the edge off of these warm, summer afternoons! See more stories of success on the district’s Facebook page.
