Pennsylvania House of Representatives Birthday Card Contest

Ms. Emily Frank’s fourth grade social studies classes spent the year learning about the state we live in. This includes Pennsylvania’s regions, government, and important figures. Recently Salisbury Elementary’s 4th grade social studies classes participated in a contest to create the cover of a birthday card for the Pennsylvania House of Representatives. It was requested that the card cover be related to Pennsylvania government. Their learners put a lot of pride into creating these cards. Many of them worked outside of class time to be satisfied with what they turned in.

The school heard back from Representative Bryan Cutler’s Executive Assistant informing them that one of their learners, Lauren Coblentz, had won the contest. Lauren created a beautiful card cover including the liberty bell, state flower, an outline of Pennsylvania, and a keystone. She also included the inscription from the Liberty Bell, “Proclaim Liberty Throughout All the Land Unto All the Inhabitants Thereof”. Her teacher says, “Lauren brings a positive energy and enthusiasm to class every day. The work she produced is a remarkable reflection of the hard work she puts into all she does. We are thrilled to have her work represent our district.”
