Internship program gives students hands-on job experience

Students at Schuylkill Haven Area High School are learning job skills for possible future careers through the school’s shadowing and internship program. A few years ago, the school began a job shadowing program where it placed students in a job setting they were interested in to observe for a day or half day. Because of the positive impact, the school decided to take things one step further by creating an internship program. Students who participate explore possible careers and get hands-on experience with them. Terri Keyworth, internship coordinator, works with local businesses and industries such as the Chamber of Commerce, medical offices and other schools to find placements. The program was funded by a grant from the William Penn Foundation. Watch a video about the program.
