Seneca Valley ACE studnets at Feb. 11 School Board Meeting

Earlier this month, students in the Seneca Valley Architecture, Construction and Engineering (SVACE) Externship participated in their first school board presentation of the new K-6 school, the first of many meetings for this group as they assist with the district’s decisions regarding this new construction project.

To understand what this group is doing as they move forward, it’s important to understand how it all began. This unique opportunity was offered to all students, grades 10-12, earlier this school year, and invited those interested in architecture, construction and engineering to apply.

After several application rounds, 18 students were chosen and are now shadowing the architectural firm and professional engineers hired to design the facility. As part of the externship, students are participating in a number of the internal meetings alongside the design team, academic advisory committee, steering committee and administration. They are also going out into the field where they are visiting the professional firms involved.

“This wonderful opportunity will serve as a career engagement opportunity for resume building and learning experience, and afford students an early perspective on the industry to determine future interest,” said Dr. Tracy Vitale, Superintendent of Schools.

We congratulate the students chosen for this opportunity, and included the area of study they have chosen for SVACE:
