Seneca Valley Middle School students want their peers to make a wish. Eighth graders Destiny Inks, Emma Kovarik and Alyssa Wible turned a lesson into reality by creating a wishing wall that states “While I live, I want to…” outside of the multipurpose room. The concept is simple. Write it on the wall. Write it on your heart. Make it happen. The entire SVMS student body has been able to write their wishes on the wall, which include wishes of students wanting to make a difference, go to college or travel the world. This student wishing wall was inspired by a lesson in Lisa Tyson’s reading class who discussed renowned artist Candy Chang, a leader in participatory public art. Ms. Tyson recently received a grant from the Seneca Valley Foundation to create the wall based on this lesson. A big thanks to Bob Cook, director of buildings, grounds and security and his staff for painting the wall with chalkboard paint as well as Seneca Valley Middle School Art Teachers George Williams and Tabatha Karman for helping with the wall lettering.
