Mrs. Kaveney and Students take time to move through the sensory walk before starting class.

Inspired by an idea from Facebook, Special Educator, Mrs. Stacey Kaveney, worked with a local business, Rhino Flooring, to create a sensory hallway floor at South Saint Marys Street Elementary School.

Funding the idea through DonorsChoose, community members and school supporters near and far, funded the project in 4 days. The project was completed in the summer of 2019 and unveiled at the start of the 2019-2020 school year. Set in a forest theme, surrounded by painted trees and creatures of the woods, nearly 600 students can hop, skip, name letters, sounds, and count as they move their bodies through the hallway! The school is thrilled to have students get their wiggles out while learning.
