Middletown Area High School’s Tech Ed teacher, Mr. Seth Decker, challenged his students to research, design, and build a functional object using the class’s 3D printer.

Two students, Ellis Roy (grade 9) and Owen Wealand (grade 10) worked together to make a prosthetic finger for Ellis who lost two of his fingers in a machinery accident when he was three years old. The students succeeded in making a functioning finger that bends and grips objects. They are still working on building accessories for it such as a fork attachment. A local TV station covered the story on their evening broadcast.
