Students honor veterans and hone carpentry skills

Students at Cumberland-Perry AVTS are using their skills to honor veterans and serve the community this fall. According to an article on ABC27.com, more than two dozen carpentry students spent Veterans Day building a new pavilion at the U.S. Army Heritage and Education Center under the guidance of carpentry instructor Jody Snider. The Quonset-hut style structure was designed to fit into the military theme of the location. It will be used for a variety of activities, including picnicking and educational events. Previously, tents housed these activities in the summer, but the new structure will allow for a more permanent solution. The project is a partnership with the Army Heritage Center Foundation. In addition to the students’ volunteer labor, free design time was also donated by architects at R.S. Mowery.
