Students make positive environmental impact

Students in the Environmental Science program at Greater Latrobe Senior High School gained valuable experience while benefitting local waterways. In May students worked with the Loyalhanna Watershed Association on a stream erosion abatement project. Students installed log structures to divert water flow using power and hand tools. Several seniors took turns using a backhoe to drop stones used to fill in gaps. During the school year, students in the class monitored water quality in local streams, such as the one they worked on, and learned more about environmental challenges that exist in the county.
