Students make waves with mural project

Members of Antietam High School’s public art club, ARTietam, has used their talents to beautify their local township. Under the direction of art teacher Tara Halvorson, the students designed and created a large blue and white mosaic mural on a chain-link fence near the Antietam Pool in Carsonia Park in Exeter Township. The image, which they created using Put-In-Cups, is a large-scale representation of the color woodblock print by the Japanese artist Hokusai, known as the “Great Wave Off Kanagawa.” The students’ artwork is called “The Great Wave Off Antietam Pool.”

The project is the result of a partnership between the Antietam School District and the Antietam Valley Recreation and Community Center (AVRCC), a nonprofit organization that manages the pool. It was funded in part through a grant made to AVRCC from the Berks Arts Council and the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts. Read more about the project at WFMZ.com.
