SV JROTC named 2019-20 ‘Honor Unit with Distinction’

The Seneca Valley Junior Reserved Officers’ Training Corps (JROTC) has been named a 2019-20 “Honor Unit with Distinction” by the U.S. Department of the Army.

The Department of the Army presented this award to JROTC units that maintained an exceptionally high standard of performance during the 2018-19 school year.

“Your JROTC Program’s designation of ‘Honor Unit with Distinction’ represents a significant achievement and your unit is commended for a job well done,” stated Brenda Gainey, chief of the JROTC Second Brigade. “I congratulate the students and faculty for their excellent support of their JROTC program.”

In order to receive the award, a JROTC unit must undergo a two-part evaluation process: a formal inspection and a unit report. The Department of the Army announced that the Seneca Valley JROTC is part of an elite group that achieved this status out of over 1,700 Army JROTC programs across the nation.

“The designation of ‘Honor Unit with Distinction’ is the highest award an Army JROTC Battalion can receive,” said Senior Army JROTC Instructor (retired) Maj. Rick Coleman. “This outstanding achievement could not have happened without the full support of the Seneca Valley Cadets, teachers and administrators. It takes tremendous effort and dedication from Seneca Valley JROTC Cadets to conduct a top notch JROTC program.”

The Seneca Valley JROTC was given permanent orders and an “Honor Unit with Distinction” certificate from the Department of the Army
