Tolerance Troupe offers encouragement for victims of bullying

For 21 years, Selinsgrove Area High School’s Tolerance Troupe has been performing at local schools with the aim of helping students develop appreciation for others’ differences and cope better with bullying and discrimination. Auditions for the group are open to any high school student in the Susquehanna Valley. The student performance group’s adviser is former Selinsgrove teacher Harvey Edwards, who founded the Troupe. During a recent visit to Chief Shikellamy Elementary School, described in a Daily Item editorial, the students offered skits that showed scenes of discrimination and harassment in school and then showed the fourth- and fifth-graders in the audience ways to handle these situations. During the performance, the audience was invited to ask questions of the performers, deepening their learning experience.
