Women in Engineering

Twin Valley Middle School offers two Project Lead the Way Gateway (PLTW) courses for students, including Design and Modeling in seventh-grade and Automation and Robotics in eighth-grade. As students transition to the high school they have opportunity to continue their studies through additional PLTW courses including strands in digital electronics, architecture and engineering. On Feb. 11 in anticipation of Engineers Week, the Twin Valley High School Project Lead the Way (PLTW) hosted their annual “Women in Engineering” workshop for eighth-grade girls interested in STEM (Science Technology Engineering & Math) careers. Approximately 60 middle school girls were in attendance along with 15 high school girls and six professional women engineers. PLTW teachers Paul Bowman and Adam Sanders organized the event which provided an opportunity for middle school girls to hear from and meet women engineers, interact with high school engineering students, participate in a “Clean Water Crisis” activity and enjoy a light breakfast.
